ACDC Live at Etihad Stadium x 3
3 concerts in 6 days and I was taking time off from work. Some may call it extreme, others know it had to be done. It was all for ACDC who after what seemed an eternity returned to Australia on their Black Ice tour.
Only in Melbourne could we suffer through excessive heat for weeks only to have heavy rain on the day of the first concert. To avoid this my mate and I hung out at the Locker Room hoping the weather would clear. This wasn't all bad as they were wisely playing ACDC clips on the big screen.
Eventually we made our way inside in time to see someone get kicked out, which was funny and sad. It turned out to be a nightmare to get to our spot reaffirming my opinion that Etihad Stadium is a terrible venue. Managed to catch some of Wolfmother and wasn't that impressed (sorry Brenda). I reckon Rose Tattoo or The Screaming Jets would have been a better support act.
Soon enough the train started up and ACDC took to the stage. What followed was an amazing, near perfect set. Words cannot do it justice. Early on Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap had punching in unison with blokes I'd never met. The Jack was a concert in itself with chicks flashing and Angus doing a striptease, which was frighteningly entertaining. Hells Bells saw Brian Johnston belie his age and take a big run up before jumping on the huge bell. Still nothing beat High Voltage. As if the song wasn't enough images of Bon Scott appeared on the big screen making it a very emotional moment.
Night 2 got off to a rocky start with some taxi problems. Having gone through it all before it was a far more relaxed evening. For whatever reason the crowd didn't seem as into it. As gigs often do this night provided memorable moments, which had little to do with the music. Some random bloke triumphantly proclaimed other bands play Manowar kills, simply because my mate was wearing a Manowar T-shirt. After the show I caught up with some other friends who had obviously enjoyed themselves. What was said can't be repeated.
Night 3 almost topped the first night. At last I could actually see without relying on the big screen. This was particularly important when it came time for Angus to do his solo. On this night the crowd was more enthusiastic with Highway To Hell receiving a tremendous reaction.
It was a spontaneous decision to go to all 3 shows and I don't regret it for a second. Every night was outstanding with the first being the best because it was all a surprise.
Only complaint was that I may have seen ACDC for the last time, which is very depressing.
